The Fighting Turtles are excited to introduce a new volunteer program to help our coaches during practices and meets. Swimmers ages 13–17 (will consider younger with coach approval) can apply to become Deck Leaders, and all volunteer hours will be recorded and verified at the end of the season. General Description

Deck Leader is an important support role for the coaching staff. The position is granted for the duration of the swim season as designated by the practice and meet schedule. They help by assisting the coaches and team with deck duties and completing needed tasks. More importantly, they are mentors and role models for other swim team members by fostering commitment, fun, sportsmanship, and team spirit.

Recommendations

• Must be a member of the WGV Fighting Turtles Swim Team
• Should be 13 -17 yo, may be younger with coach approval
• Must have solid experience in competitive swimming
• Must consistently attend practices, swim meets, and Champs Final meet
• Must have parent or guardian consent
• Must submit an application, interview, & obtain Head Coach or Swim Board approval

Responsibilities

• Behavioral:
  • Demonstrate commitment, positivity, sportsmanship, and respect
  • Communication that is helpful and positive
  • Mentor by setting the example with your behavior & presence and always following league, team, & pool policies & safety standards
• Organizational Tasks:
  • Helping set up, keeping organized, and put away equipment
  • Deliver messages to coaches, board members, or parents
  • Immediate report any injuries/concerns to coach or board member
  • Other tasks as directed by coach or board member
• Support staff by assisting:
  • With warm-ups
  • Collecting swimmers and lead to ready bench
  • Organizing relay teams
  • “Catching heads”
  • Other assistance as requested by coach or board member

Condition

• Serving as Deck Leader is a privilege, and failure to meet the responsibilities of the role may result in its removal
